Shu Qun 舒群

Shu Qun 舒群 (original name was Li Shutang 李書棠; pennames included Hei Ren黑人  and Li Xudong李旭東) (1913-1989) was born in Harbin 哈爾濱, Heilongjiang 黑龍江 Province. He was Manchu nationality, of the Yellow Bordered Banner 镶黄旗后裔. In 1931, he participated in the Anti-Japanese Volunteer Army抗日義勇軍 in the Northeast. In 1935, he moved to Shanghai and joined the 左联(Zuo Lian, abbreviation of The League of Left-Wing Writers). He worked as a secretary in the 8th Route Army, for General Zhu De 朱德. In 1936, 《沒有祖國的孩子》(Children Without a Motherland) was published in Shanghai Life Bookstore (上海生活書店), and was very popular. In 1940, he served as a teacher and head of the Lu Xun Academy of Arts in Yan’an and was  editor-in-chief of the Literary Supplement of “Liberation Daily”《解放日報》. After 1949, he served as the vice president of Northeastern University, and as the secretary-general of the Chinese Writers Association.
