Yang Hui 楊晦

Yang Hui (original name, Yang Xingzhen) (1899-1983), was born in Liaoyang辽宁, Liaoning 辽阳Province. He was an active participant in the May Fourth Movement, in Beijing. In 1920, he graduated from Peking University’s Philosophy Department. In 1923, his four-act play contrasting free love and arranged marriages, 来客 (Lai ke, The Guest), was published in the supplement of Beijing’s 晨报 (Chen bao, Morning news). In 1925, he organized the Shen Zhong 沈鍾Society with Feng Zhi 馮至and others. After the founding of the PRC, he served as a professor of the Chinese Department of Peking University. His translations include work by Romain Rolland and William Shakespeare.
